Retreats

Temecula 2023

Join us: October 20-23, 2023

Mental health therapists hold a lot, for many. Our care for our clients is often what we put first, and we leave our own healing for “later”. In a time when demand for therapy is at an all-time high, we must prioritize self-care to avoid burnout.

After working in a clinic together for years in tiny therapy rooms with just a thin wall of separation between us, we realized that the constraints of large caseloads, low-pay, and office politics were a huge detriment to our mental health and well-being. We began to search for healing modalities that fit more within our view of the world and beliefs. At that time, we found techniques that helped us both personally and professionally, and discovered that there is a dire need for other therapists to have a place to do the same. This is where Holistic Therapist Retreats was born!

Our mission is to create a community of holistic therapists dedicated to finding techniques that appeal to their sense of self and belief in a holistic perspective of well-being. Our retreat’s aim is to provide a supportive place for therapists to learn, explore selves, nurture friendships, and enhance rejuvenation.

During this weekend we will explore different modalities and methods for healing, including:

Katie Plumb, MA, MSW, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been providing individual and group psychotherapy in Long Beach, and Artesia, CA for almost ten years. I also supervise Associate Social Workers in diverse settings. I specialize in working adults and teens who have experienced trauma ("classic" PTSD, C-PTSD, and Developmental trauma), as well as attachment wounds, grief, and identity concerns. Primary modalities include Brainspotting (BSP), Parts Work, expressive arts and play, as well as mindfulness training alongside standard talk-therapy.

When not working, I love meeting new people, making cards and silly drawings for loved ones, sculpting, walking in the sun, beaching, and FaceTiming with my (perfect) 5y/o nephew. Originally from DC, I came out 12 years ago to finish my MSW, and will continue to stay for the weather!

Juliana Glaser, MA, LMFT

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and registered art therapist in California, Nevada, and Texas. In my almost 10 years of practice, I have developed a system to work through eating disorders and disordered eating, Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating, trauma work, and AFAB people diagnosed as Autistic in adulthood to live healthier, more meaningful lives. I utilize brainspotting and other intuitive holistic modalities like art, tarot, and energy work to facilitate healing along with conventional talk therapy.

After hours, I enjoy making art, crocheting, hiking, and being with my loved ones. My two standard poodles really take the tiktok trend of the golden child and the menace very seriously. I am originally from Los Angeles and I'm currently in Las Vegas living that local life with great food and avoiding the strip!

Valinda Roche

My name is Valinda Roche. I am a former AVP pro beach volleyball player. As an athlete, I had been repeatedly injured so I looked into relief with massage. It was so effective that I decided to get my certification in massage therapy. That was 30 years ago. I offer a range of massage techniques including Swedish and Deep Tissue.

I'm married to a physical therapist, and have two sons. I work daily on my recovery to stay clean and sober.

Amala Benny Shamlou: Laughter Yogi

I have been a yoga teacher for 15 years. I am a 500 certified yoga teacher and owner of two studios in San Diego offering 6 styles of yoga. During our session I will be guiding you through Laughter Yoga (Hasayoga). Hasa means Humor/laugh (comedy) in Sanskrit. Hasa yoga is an international exercise that encourages voluntary laughter for prolonged periods, and carries the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter: connection with others, regulation and elevation of mood and pleasure, strengthened immune system, reduced stress, and alleviates physical discomfort amongst other benefits.

Interestingly, the human body can not differentiate between real and fake. The old saying, fake it until you make it, rings true. Research shows after one minute of fake laughing, it turns into genuine laughter. It is an excellent way to keep healthy and happy, especially when it's practiced in a group, the contagious element of laughter means it quickly spreads to others nearby

Jewels: Chakra Facials

I have been an aesthetician for six years, and have been certified in Reiki for seven. I was born with healing hands, knowing intuitively from a young age where people hold pain, and how they are feeling based on the energy I sense. In working with individuals with skin conditions, I noticed that most of these clients needed help both inside and out so I combined my Reiki practice with my facial services to provide clearing, alignment, and reattunement while providing pampering to clients’ skin. I am passionate about sharing my healing hands with others.

My therapy style is guided by DEI framework and trauma-informed care and incorporates art, mindfulness, somatic practices, and a small dose of tarot or hula hooping. I have worked extensively with domestic violence survivors as a counselor and advocate, and have co-created and facilitated DEI workshops in rural human services organizations.

I am a grassroots community organizer at an organization supporting Filipina women, families, and workers. After bouncing around the globe for 12 years, I returned to So Cal and currently reside in Long Beach with my two cats, Biggie Smalls and Papa Wu.
